Satsuki, a hidden gem located at 1130 Kensington Rd NW in Calgary, elevates the art of sushi dining. This charming Japanese restaurant has quickly garnered rave reviews from patrons, with many hailing it as the best sushi destination in the city. Customers frequently commend the passionate ownership duo, Chef May and her boyfriend, Jackie, who not only serve outstanding dishes but also ensure a warm, friendly atmosphere. I was particularly struck by the Omakase experience, where Chef May's dedication to honoring traditional Japanese flavors shone in every exquisite bite. The attention to detail in both presentation and flavor is evident, with standout offerings like Bluefin Tuna Otoro and Wagyu Beef leaving diners in awe. Those who visit are sure to enjoy the cozy ambiance, although it's worth noting the popularity may lead to a wait. The welcoming nature of the staff, coupled with high-quality dishes such as the delectable Genmaicha tea and stunning sushi creations, solidifies Satsuki as a must-visit destination for sushi lovers. Overall, this restaurant is not just about eating; it’s a celebration of Japanese culinary culture wrapped in hospitality. A must-try in Calgary!

I have been looking for sushi in Calgary for a long time that would be tasty. And here it is! The food was 10 out of 10. The atmosphere is great, very cozy place. There are always a lot of people in the restaurant. Which is why the wait is quite long. But the place is good, I will come back))

The best sushi place in the city by far! May, the owner and chef, is incredibly passionate about her food. Her boyfriend, Jackie, manages the restaurant, and they’re both so friendly. They took the time to explain their dishes, and you can tell they love what they do. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. If I could, I’d give them 10 stars!

During the Omakase, chef May told us her vision was to honor traditional Japanese flavors and ingredients while still giving her own unique take on food - and it was absolutely reflected in every delicious bite.

What a great sushi place! All the options and just high quality food. And Jacky - what a nice wholesome welcoming guy that only wishes you enjoy the great food. Highly recommend this place when you’re in Calgary!

Came with my family, loved the sashimi, it was so fresh and high quality. I thought the rolls were only okay, would rather get more of the cooked mains. Really liked the grilled hamachi which was a feature that you day and the sable fish risotto. Service was excellent, so fast and accommodating! Will be back!

First time here for omakase. Started off good with hot towel for cleaning hands. First few dishes were well executed however once the nigiri was served the rice was not made well, the grains of rice were broken and gave a rough mouthfeel. The fish was good, just too bad the rice was not made well. Not sure if it was an off night one off. Sage hill T&T does a better job of cooking the rice. Chawan mushi was excellent and lots of yuzu. Yuzu is excellent compliment to any flavour.

Just discovered this gem of a restaurant 3 weeks ago, and we have visited 3 times! Been missing delicious sushi like we had in Japan, but now that we found Chef May & the team at Satsuki, we are so happy!! Delicious, fresh, tasty sushi, so many delicious menu items, you will absolutely have to come back again and again to try it all... plus eat all your favourites! The Hamachi, Shima Aji, Toro (both!), Blue Fin Tuna, and A5 Wagyu with Fois Grois (need I say more?!) are next level delicious. Have you ever had an Uni Martini - if no, you must go to Satsuki asap! The Omakase Experience is just like our dinners in Japan, such a treat to sit so close & see all the action! With special attention from the extremely talented & knowledgeable Chef May, it makes for an awesome night out! We also just went for lunch for the YYC Food & Drink Expo, and we were blown away once more! I have an egg allergy, and Chef is always so kind accommodating, offering options that are just as good (if not MORE delicious that the egg-filled version!) Thank you Chef May, see you again soon!
